Now that I have finished my lit circle book, "Hunger Games", my idea about the theme of the novel has transformed from surviving to, keeping your dignity and your humanity alive. Personally, at the beginning of the novel, the author,Suzanne Collins, painted a picture to the reader on how not everyone has a perfect life. In the case of the book "Hunger Games" there are twelve different outlying districts. Some are wealthier than others in many ways, such as resources and living contentions.
The main character, Katniss and her family are one of the numerous families that live in district twelve. In fact, they live in a community that has more disadvantages than advantages, such as, Katniss must hunt daily for her family in the forbidden woods and their district has no respect from Capitol. As the reader starts to understand Katniss's problems, the author changes to the theme from surviving a daily life, to thriving to keep your dignity alive. With the annual 'Hunger Games'. many children fight for their lives for fame and fortune. While reading the novel "Hunger Games" I could picture how Katniss and countless other fighters feel during the these horrific games, from fighting new friends to even killing for fame and fortune. For instance, before the Game Makers had changed the rules, Katniss was willing to kill Peeta to come back home to her family. When all said and done, my idea about the theme of the novel has transformed from surviving to, keeping your humanity and dignity alive!
